Radio Wildfire

Catch Chris on Radio Wildfire on the loop!!

About the show:

It’s a feast for sore ears in this edition of Radio Wildfire Live with contributions from the Young Storyteller of the Year Competition; Writing West Midlands, the new writers’ development agency; monologues from Chris Hoskins; and the Birmingham Poet Laureate celebrating the fact that the City is now shortlisted for UK City of Culture.

The Young Storyteller of the Year Competition has been running annually for six years, promoted by The Traditional Arts Team. A national competition held in Birmingham, it attracts competitors from around the UK. This year Radio Wildfire is proud to be a media partner to the event and we’ll be celebrating this by welcoming organiser Graham Langley to the studio to tell it’s like its going to be on 6th March this year.

We had a great response when we first featured tracks from the a cappella group Free Harmony. We also played a monologue from Chris Hoskins, one of the group members that night from the cd Relatively Speaking, and now we are returning to the cd to play you more of those monologues. Running through the emotions they are excellently crafted and beautifully delivered as Chris casts her eye over her family and acquaintances.

For those of you who are interested in developing your own writing, Writing West Midlands is the new literature agency for writers in the region. On the show we’ll be joined by Chief Executive Jonathan Davidson who will talk about some of the initiatives already underway and about future opportunities for writers. Jonathan who is also director of Birmingham Book Festival has a wealth of experience of promoting literature, so listen in and enhance your chances!

Adrian Johnson, this year’s Birmingham Poet Laureate, joined us at the end of 2009 just as Birmingham threw its hat into the ring as a contender for UK City of Culture. Now that the shortlist has been announced he’s joining us again to enthuse about Brum being in the final four, and enthuse, and enthuse, and enthuse...
